Barriers

Lack of three critical path components is a barrier to migration toward more semantic encodings:

• Mathematical OCR (digitization, legacy PDF)
• LaTeX -> XML+MathML
• Ubiquitous display (fonts and browsers)

There is activity in all three areas, and hope for viable solutions in the near term.
